LOOSE AND EXPRESSIVE Landscape, Florals, etc
(SKILLS-BUILDING CLASS)
Who is this class for?
Beginners, intermediate or anyone who wants to refresh their skills. For the first 5-6 weeks, Kell teaches and demonstrates at the start of each lesson, and we do a lot of smaller studies and exercises on paper to build confidence. Then students spend the rest of term working on their own canvas and subject matter of choice.
This is a great class for anyone who wants to learn to paint in a loose or expressive way. We are going to give ourselves permission to experiment. We are not aiming to paint exactly what we see, but rather evoke a particular sense of place with an emphasis on personal interpretation. we are not aiming for a detailed realistic depiction
Having said this, we still need to consider the foundation skills of shape, colour and value. Kell is a qualified and experienced art teacher who believes in learning these skills as they set you up for a more successful and enjoyable painting experience.
During this course we will be influenced by the The Impressionists, Post impressionists, Fauvists, Australian Impressionists and Contemporary artists.
You can use Kell’s reference photos or your own ideas, style and subject matter. The class is very flexible.
The topics below will be covered during the term!
· Experimenting with brushstrokes and mark making
· How much detail does an expressive painting need?
· Simplification
